Holmes’ attorney said this was a “baseless” claim and asked for it to be removed from her record, saying the ticket was booked for Holmes to attend a wedding in Mexico in last January and it was purchased when she was under the impression she would be acquitted. Holmes reportedly canceled the ticket after prosecutors found out about it three days before departure. They described this as “an attempt to flee” and said, “It is difficult to know with certainty what Defendant would have done had the government not intervened,” prosecutors wrote. Rather, prosecutors claim Holmes purchased a one-way ticket to Mexico prior to being found guilty. In response, prosecutors argued she has not, in fact, proven she is not a flight risk, per the Washington Post. Late last year she appealed her conviction arguing she should be allowed freedom on the basis there is no risk of her fleeing, and because she intends to raise “substantial issues” that could warrant a new trial. Perhaps, due to its real life title character, that being Elizabeth Holmes’, whom has now been sentenced to 11.25 years in jail following a nearly four-month trial.
